Ajuda National Palace
The National Palace of Ajuda was born out of the will of King João VI (1767-1826) to create one of the largest palaces in the world filled with the riches of the Portuguese empire. A former royal residence that is now a museum, it is also the largest Portuguese palace in terms of the importance of its collections and the authenticity of its interiors. It preserves the spaces almost intact as they were at the end of the monarchy in Portugal in 1910. The palace's collections are varied and include collections from the royal family dating back to the 16th century.
The collections include jewellery, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, furniture, glass, photographs, decorative arts and other objects that bring together a universe of more than 127,000 works.
The Ajuda National Palace - Royal Treasure Museum is a special setting for the presentation of a unique collection with particular significance for a country with a history spanning nine centuries.

Executive Director
Royal Treasure Museum
The Portuguese Crown Jewels and other treasures of the Royal House have been on public display, at the state-of-the-art Royal Treasure Museum, at the Ajuda National Palace, in Lisbon, since June 2022. The unique historical, artistic, gemmological and visual wealth of these collections set up the perfect scenario to bring together speakers of the highest international caliber to talk about treasures that belong, or once belonged, to ruling sovereigns and their families from various geographies across the globe.
Welcome to Treasures!

Treasures Royal Treasure Museum
This first edition of the international colloquium, TREASURES, that goes under the name “Royal Gems and Jewellery International Colloquium” will, therefore, explore fabulous gemstones and historically relevant masterpieces of jewellery in sessions that, although rigorous and factual in essence, are communicated in a more informal fashion, being more attendee friendly than the more rigid format of scientific conferences or symposiums, hence the designation of this meeting as a colloquium.

ABOUT
World-renowned speakers together at the world-class attraction - Royal Treasure Museum
The two-day program includes a first day of talks and panels, introducing notable international collections and presenting our own national collection as the keynote address, offering not only a window to the past but also exploring the challenges of royal collections and highly important gems and jewellery for the future, and a second day of workshops, masterclasses and guided visits conducted by our own local specialists that were directly involved in the historic, artistic and gemmological study as well as conservation and preparation of the Portuguese Crown Jewels for display at the museum. The program is enriched with a very rare opportunity to enjoy a Gala Dinner at the Royal Palace of Ajuda, the very same palace where heads of state are dinner guests by our President.
